"No chicken escapes from Tweedy's farm...."

That's the quote that was going through my mind today. My husband and I were sitting down inside after a whole lot of yard work when we heard a bagawking from the FRONT yard. We both instantly jumped up and ran to the front door. I didn't see anything amiss, but my husband being the thorough detective that he is checked under our front porch. Sure enough, there was our Harriet (Rhode Island Red) lost and far from her run and coop.

the escapee
Harriet is a bit like a dog and she follows us out front to do our yard work while her more cautious sisters prefer to forage for bugs in the backyard. Though I was sure I'd shooed Harriet into the backyard before closing and locking all the gates I must have been mistaken. Harriet was out front for about two hours with roaming dogs, lots of cars and the brain capacity of... well, a chicken.

We brought Harriet back through the house where I'm sure she realized that our "coop" is much nicer than hers. She put up with a sniff from the hounds and was reunited with her sisters where, I'm sure, she is recounting tales of her afternoon on the run.
