A mantel post...

One of the features I love about my living room is my fireplace. It's a river rock look with a beautiful wood floating mantel. We spend a lot of time gathered in front of this fireplace so decorating the mantel for holidays and seasonally has been something I enjoy. As Christmas winds to a close it was back to the basics on our mantel and I thought I'd share the treasures I keep there year round.

The central focus for our hearth is an amazing original oil painting by a local artist. It depicts a local grazing field full of cattle; one which I pass daily. We have our mantel clock, a 1940 Seth Thomas that chimes the hour and the half along with an antler picked up at an antique store a couple years back. When visitors ask why I only have one I often joke that that's all that was left of the deer I hit. Funny if you are a local or slightly white trash sounding if you are from the city.

A blue Mason jar of pearl buttons adds a splash of vintage and is paired with a blue bird (gifted to me by a dear friend) and small nest nestled into the antler. A rustic birdhouse, another antique store find, finishes off the look. All treasured items that make me happy to be at home. Though I change the decor for major holidays these are the items that keep making a return trip when the holidays are tucked away.

What do you put on your mantel? Do you decorate it seasonally?

  3. I love your fireplace! My last home had a fireplace very similar to yours but with a large piece of driftwood as the mantle - I miss it so! Thanks for sharing yours!

  4. Our mantels are similar! I have a pair of oil paintings of the Tejon Ranch hills that I got at the Shelter on the Hill Wine/cheese fundraiser in 2011. Love my mantel as well! :)
